about

In early August of 2014 two of our friends from Bangor ME died unexpectedly in a car accident on route 1A between Ellsworth and Brewer. They were killed in a head on collision by a drunk driver in the early evening hours. Roxanne and Phill both worked at Paddy Murphy's, a pub in downtown Bangor and a centerpiece of the downtown community. Bangor is a town in Central/Eastern Maine that, although was once a logging and commerce capital of the U.S. is now primarily a service center. For many years throughout the 80’s and 90’s Bangor saw her young people either flee the area for cultural and economic opportunities elsewhere or fold themselves into a life of poverty or subsistence with little economic or cultural promise. But in the past ten or so years the downtown area of this small city has seen an incredible resurgence and growth both economically and culturally. The citizens of Bangor can easily point to the downtown area as a place where artists, poets, musicians, and entrepreneurs have gathered together to form a community that supports, nurtures and celebrates the efforts of their compatriots. Roxanne and Phill were important and loved members of this downtown community. When we all lost Roxanne and Phill, it felt as though everything changed and the thread was being ripped out of our community.

We believe that actively remembering Roxanne and Phill through the telling of stories, the sharing of recollections and speaking openly about the gap in our community is an essential part of the grieving process. When we came home from summer tour in order to be with our hometown in the wake of this terrible loss, we listened to what our friends and loved ones had to say, we reflected on our own experiences both before and after we lost Roxanne and Phill and tried to create a set of songs that would help tell the stories of Downtown Bangor and the two people we are all missing each and every day.

about

When Particles Collide Bangor, Maine

The music of When Particles Collide includes Southern Rock choruses, New Wave a la Blondie vocals, lightning speed Green Day- esque drumming, classic Motown grooves and Queens of the Stone Age-style riffs -- and yet somehow it all sounds like Chris and Sasha.

Track Name: This Town
This Town is the grounds on which we lay, our hearts up on the bar

We were patient with the drunken mean talk and we
held the legs for dancing on table tops
And we listened when the jokes fell flat and the
notes as well hell we raised a glass
Woah-oh

We never took stock of the fortress we had built with her
walls of protection against our well earned guilt and our
bruises were forgiven in truth and our
arms were armaments against the things that we do

We can not stand up straight
We can not fall asleep
‘Cause open or closed
You’re all, you’re all our eyes can see
You’re all we see

Everything broke even the iron and the stone and
castle life is nothing when you’re all alone, and we
know without you both we’ll never get to see
The kingdom we could have been oh eventually

We can not stand up straight
We can not fall asleep
‘Cause open or closed
You’re all, you’re all our eyes can see
You’re all we see

This town is the grounds on which we lay, our hearts up on the bar
We carve our scars into each others arms
So we can hold on
